Founded in 1928 by Sebastian and Josie Braga, Braga Fresh began farming the rich soils of California’s Salinas Valley on what is now the Braga Home Ranch in Soledad, CA. Nearly a century later, the third generation continues the family’s commitment to sustainable, organic farming. Vertically integrated, Braga Fresh combines tradition with innovation to grow, harvest, and process fresh vegetables and leafy greens under the Josie’s Organics and Braga Farms brands. The Josie’s Organics brand was created in honor of the family matriarch Josie Braga.
Braga Fresh is a leader in on-farm sustainability, setting aside 10% of its farmland for beneficial habitat, operating its own Braga Bee apiary, and pursuing a long-term goal of carbon neutrality. Now in its fifth year of organic-regenerative farming, the company shares its progress and practices openly through its Carbon Capture Farming program.
In addition to its commitment to responsible farming, the Braga family is deeply dedicated to supporting the local community—especially the families behind #TeamBraga in South Monterey County. Partnering with programs such as Brighter Bites is a natural extension of this mission, allowing Braga Fresh to make a direct impact by delivering fresh, locally grown produce to nearby schools and families.
Recently honored as Organic Grower of the Year by Western Growers and recognized for Innovation and Leadership by the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce, CEO Rod Braga credits the company’s 97-year legacy to the dedication, expertise, and hard work of the team of employees who power Braga Fresh every day.
